All those times with Sugarcult.
A Small Nod To My Years with Sugarcult.
I’ve been waxing nostalgic on some of my music photography lately. One of the bands who helped shape me as a photographer was Sugarcult. Tim, Marko, Airin, and Kenny are wonderful humans who invited me into some of their private and public moments with my camera over the course of five years. It was a special time in my life.
These photos are just a handful of the years with them and are some of the most special to me. They were taken in the following cities: Atlanta, GA; Los Angeles, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Washington D.C.; Tokyo, JP; and Osaka, JP. Some are from the recording sessions for their album Lights Out!, some from tour, and one of them is from a particularly special night for Marko.
The shot in front of the Claremont Lounge in Atlanta was taken a few hours before a call from home that his wife was in labor with their second child - he got on a plane to be home for the birth of their daughter. Seven years later we still laugh about that and the day when he’ll get to tell her that story where she can fully appreciate it.
If you don’t know the music you should check it out, it’s a lot of fun, just like the four guys who made it. Thanks for the time, the memories, and the laughs guys.
I look at these and see so many things. But more than anything else, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude to these four.
